Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Our independence is fundamental to the credibility of our work.

Educational institutions turn to EQSC Global for research, institutional assessments, quality improvement and independent recognition. They should be confident that our findings are based on evidence, our reviewers can exercise professional judgement, and our decisions are not influenced by commercial relationships.

We recognise that independence is not simply a statement of intent. It requires clear responsibilities, safeguards against conflicts of interest and processes that allow decisions to be questioned and reviewed.

EQSC Global is committed to maintaining these standards across its research, membership, consultancy, certification and accreditation activities.

Our Principles of Independence

At EQSC, independence begins with a clear distinction between the services an institution purchases and the conclusions reached through our work. Institutions may engage EQSC for services, research, membership, and professional support. They cannot purchase EQSC's judgement.

No payment guarantees recognition.

Membership, assessment fees, consultancy engagements, research commissions or institutional partnerships do not entitle an institution to certification, accreditation or a favourable assessment.

Responsibilities remain separate

Those involved in commercial relationships or institution-specific advisory work do not control independent verification findings or recognition decisions.

Evidence determines findings

Assessments and recognition decisions are based on the applicable EQSC framework, documented evidence and professional evaluation.

Conflicts must be disclosed.

Personal, financial, professional or institutional relationships that could affect impartiality are subject to declaration and review.

How Independence Is Maintained Across Our Services

EQSC’s governance keeps recognition decisions independent of commercial interests, with clear responsibilities at every stage. Declared interests, conflict checks and separate review, decision and appeal roles support fair, evidence-based outcomes.

1

Membership Is Not Recognition

EQSC Institutional Membership provides access to defined research publications, professional resources, briefings and the Recognition Pathway. Membership is a service relationship, not a statement of institutional quality. A member does not receive preferential evidence grades, favourable decisions or recognition merely because it holds a subscription.

2

Independent Certification and Accreditation

EQSC Certification and Accreditation are awarded through a defined review and decision process. The Recognition Pathway separates readiness assessments, evidence verification and final recognition decisions.

Baseline Reviewers do not serve on the Verification Panel for the same institution. Verification Panel members do not take part in deciding the recognition outcome for the scope they assessed. Recognition decisions are assigned to the Recognition Committee under EQSC's governance framework, with decisions supported by documented findings and written reasons. This separation is intended to prevent commercial, advisory or assessment responsibilities from improperly influencing the final outcome.

3

Research and Commissioned Studies

EQSC's research activities include sector studies, institutional benchmarking, original surveys, research publications and commissioned investigations.

A commissioning organisation may identify the questions it needs answered, but it does not purchase a predetermined conclusion. Research methods, evidence interpretation and final findings remain subject to professional judgement. Commissioners and sponsors are identified in published outputs where applicable, while confidential studies are governed by their agreed contractual and publication terms.

4

Consultancy and Assessment Remain Distinct

EQSC may undertake institutional audits, diagnostic assessments, benchmarking studies and commissioned consultancy. These engagements help institutions examine their existing practices, understand their limitations and plan improvements. They do not constitute independent recognition.

Where EQSC has previously provided institution-specific advice, the people involved are subject to conflict restrictions before any subsequent verification assignment. An institution's decision to purchase consultancy does not influence its eligibility for, or outcome under, EQSC's Recognition Pathway.

5

Commercial Independence and Fair Treatment

EQSC Global is a privately operated organisation whose activities are supported through membership subscriptions, research licences, assessments, consultancy and contracted institutional engagements. These commercial relationships support the delivery of our services. They do not confer authority over recognition decisions, research conclusions or verification findings.

Fees are determined by the nature and scope of the services provided, not by whether an institution receives a positive outcome. Reviewers and committee members must not receive outcome-linked incentives or personal benefits from institutions under assessment. Commercial considerations must not override the published requirements governing certification and accreditation.

6

Oversight, Accountability and Appeals

EQSC's governance framework provides for oversight of impartiality risks, conflict declarations and the safeguards used to address them. An institution may raise a reasoned objection to a proposed reviewer where a potential conflict is identified. Under the Recognition Pathway, such objections should be submitted within five working days of receiving the proposed panel details.

Where an institution believes a recognition decision has been affected by bias, a material conflict or a procedural failure, it may use the published appeals process. Appeals are considered separately from the people involved in the original review and decision. For further information, see our Help & FAQ and Client Support pages.

Have a concern about impartiality?

Contact EQSC's designated impartiality reporting channel.

We encourage institutions, reviewers, employees, research participants and other stakeholders to report genuine concerns about independence or impartiality. These may involve an undisclosed relationship, an inappropriate financial interest, suspected commercial interference, reviewer bias or another circumstance that could affect confidence in our work.

Email: impartiality@eqscglobal.com

Please describe the concern, identify the relevant institution or engagement where possible, and provide supporting information.

Concerns will be considered through an appropriate review process, with individuals directly involved in the matter excluded from determining its outcome where necessary. Information will be handled responsibly and shared only as reasonably necessary for investigation, legal compliance and appropriate action. Good-faith reporting must not result in retaliation. Service complaints and formal recognition appeals are handled through their respective published procedures.
